Marfa, Texas + Outer Cape, Massachusetts
These early photographs were made as an Artist in Residence at the Chinati Foundation, Marfa in West Texas in 2009 and as a 2008-09 Fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center, Provincetown in Massachusetts. The images explore the dynamic relationship between the natural and manmade environments. More than just describing a specific place, they make visible the underlying structures of landscape.
For me, the process of making photographs is the way in which I become present in the landscape, and the landscape becomes present in me. Every finished photograph exists on an infinite horizon of interpretation – it can be examined and reexamined – opening up different worlds and revealing secrets and paradoxes.
