Hybrid Landscapes
I am fascinated by how photographs can alter the perception of solidity in objects. Natural elements that could be thought of as immaterial – fog, reflections, water, and light – compete with the material – the density and weight of concrete, glass, and steel. Clouds appear to travel through bridge pylons; steel girders skim across the surface of water. In this work I try to reframe the way we look at the environment in order to reveal new secrets, juxtapositions, or possibilities.
Introductory Quote
When the world was old, all things became possible. Opposites remained opposed, yet found a unity in being so.… There was reconciliation without compromise or surrender. Each thing remained true to itself, but joined with many others. Conflict became a form of harmony. Accordingly, the human and the natural embraced one another, almost by accident.
